Genealogy Guys Comment About the VGS Cruise.

On their February 1st Pod Cast, the Genealogy Guys gave a very nice synopsis of our recent genealogy cruise to the Bahamas. George Morgan and Drew Smith, the genealogy guys, were guest speakers on the cruise. Hear what they had to say about the cruise. Their pod-casts are the longest-running regularly produced genealogy pod cast in the world.
The primary topic on the podcast is in immigration that was also very informative.

Tonight on Genealogy Roadshow: The PBS series will be in Philadelphia at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. One of tonight's stories is about a rumor of an ancestor who was a counterfeiter and a horse thief however this person also gave away the money because people were so poor. Tune-in tonight to learn how this story turns out. PBS at 8:00 p.m.

Today is the 200th anniversary of the ending of the War of 1812:

 Treaty of Ghent, p.1

 The hostilities ended at 11:00 p.m., when President James Madison exchanged documents with the British Representative. It was ratified by the U.S. Senate the following day. The Treaty of Ghent, signed on December 24, 1814 in the Flemish city of Ghent, was the peace treaty that ended the War of 1812 between the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Because of the lack of communications, it took weeks for news of the peace treaty to reach the United States. During that time, the Battle of New Orleans was fought by American and British forces. Under the command of Major General Andrew Jackson, the Battle of New Orleans was finally won on January 18, 1815 when the British forces retreated. Andrew Jackson went on and became the seventh president of the United States in 1829 and severed two terms. He was of Scottish and Irish descent.
