Chinese American Research: Challenges and Discoveries
Wednesday, Feb. 10 @ 2:00 p.m. (EST) Presenter: Grant Din
The Chinese Exclusion Act, in effect from 1882-1943, made it difficult for Chinese to immigrate to America but also created a myriad of documents, many stored in the National Archives, which help genealogists. Researchers often have to determine if family names are "real" or "paper" because of what people had to do to overcome discriminatory laws. The workshop will provide an introduction to these and many other resources, and offer suggestions on other available documents and organizations.

Wednesday, Feb. 10 @ 8:00 p.m. (EST) Presenter: B.J. Jamieson

There are resources available for tracing Maine ancestors, despite a late start to vital records registration. This presentation will cover the most commonly used resources for research in the Pine Tree State.

Technology
Arlington National Cemetery's app, ANC Explorer, enables families, visitors and the public to locate gravesites, events or other points of interest throughout the cemetery; view front-and-back headstone photos and points of interest; and receive directions to these locations. The latest version also includes self-guided tours, easy access to general information, and provides the ability to save searched burial records to a mobile device. Download the free app to your mobile device using the App Store or Google Play. Launch ANC Explorer here if using a traditional desktop browser. The app is also available for public use on kiosks at the cemetery.
