Attending a National conference is an amazing educational opportunity for those who attend. But it doesn’t stop there. When members return home, they bring with them all of the new ideas, excitement and expanded perspectives they have acquired, and share them with their fellow members. Some people become inspired to create new projects, become proficient on a particular topic or field of interest. Others may become speakers or leaders in their local, state or national society. We all benefit.

| The VGS Board of Directors, in keeping with our mission to promote education, particularly as it relates to genealogy, is offering a scholarship to defray some of the costs to be incurred by members attending the 2016 Conference of The National Genealogical Society, which will be held in Fort Lauderdale, FL, May 4-7, 2016. Registration fees, transportation, lodging and food expenses add up quickly for a member attending a conference away from home. Because we are far and away the largest genealogical society in Florida, and the conference is being held in our state, we want to make a strong statement by encouraging as many members as possible to attend. | |
| The Board has authorized the awarding of ten $400 scholarships to members attending the NGS Conference. This is the most significant assistance for the support of members attending a conference in the history of The VGS. A scholarship may mean the difference between some members going or not going. We will be drawing 10 names and four alternates (contingent upon the actual number of applications received) at the March VGS General Membership Meeting. | |
