Over 40 VGS members attended the Central Florida Family History Conference this past Saturday. Many took the bus and others traveled by car to this 19th annual event. Seen above is the keynote speaker, Kory Meyerink, who presented "Ancestry Member Trees or FamilyTree at FamilySearch? Why not both." He asked this question... What is the best way to build and preserve your own family tree? His presentation pointed out that both of these major websites have strong and weak points. He also stressed that neither are perfect and that using both of them might mean getting the best of both worlds.
In addition, five presentation sessions were offered where over forty additional presentations were given from a wide array of genealogical topics, including Basic Beginning Genealogy, DNA, Probate and Court records, Internet Tools such as Google Hangouts, and how to Separate Fact from Fiction to name just a few.
Next year will be the 20th anniversary of this conference. We hope that even more members will take advantage of this fantastic day of learning.
Vietnam Wall Will Be Open for Viewing:
The Vietnam Wall will be open for viewing on November 10-11-12 at the Soccer Field, located on Rolling Acres Road. It will be open for viewing 24 hours from the time of arrival (on November 10th) to the time of departure (on November 12th). It will be guarded by Military and Community Police. The wall is 340 ft. long. It is a miniature duplicate of the wall that stands in Washington, D.C.
I will see it again even though I don't want too. I know too many people that are listed on it.
