The Case of Someone Else's Baby Book:
The Cousin Detective
"Whose baby book is it?" It had to be someone related to my mother's side of the family. The names, dates, and places were all from the mid-west plains states of Illinois, Iowa, and Oklahoma. Her mother was one of ten children, and all of them were from that area -- and there were plenty of names to go around, so it must be one of those many aunts, uncles, or cousins.
However, this name didn't make any sense."

"Since we all can agree that we can't accept undocumented facts and add them to our trees without substantiation, we should also agree we can't accept a DNA match without the segment information to provide evidence that we really do match, and where on the chromosome we share DNA."

Tribal Enrollment and Genetic Testing:
"When the NCAI Policy Research Center began developing this resource guide, tribal leaders asked many questions such as, “What is genetic testing? What are good sources of information about genetic testing? What kinds of DNA testing can we use for tribal enrollment? How do we respond to individuals claiming tribal membership based on DNA tests?” This paper was developed to provide tribal leaders with more information on genetic testing related to tribal enrollment. Tribes are sovereign nations and so will decide their own views on genetic testing. This paper provides information to assist in those decisions."

1651: Laws are passed in Massachusetts forbidding the poor to adopt excessive styles of dress.
1884: Transparent paper-strip photographic film is patented by George Eastman.
1912: Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt is shot and wounded in assassination attempt in Milwaukee. He was saved by the papers in his breast pocket and, though wounded, insisted on finishing his speech.
1890 Birthday: Dwight D. Eisenhower, 34th U.S. President (1953-1961).
